the man who wasn’t just a philosopher

Yesterday at the funeral, I was with some friends as we went to the front to see Liberty, which had to be one of the most difficult experiences of my life. We walked outside and talked about it a bit. I mentioned how strange it was to see him dressed in a suit. Another friend said, “Yeah, he should be wearing a Youth of Today shirt, dickies, and vegan shoes held together by duct tape” and in instant, all the wonderfully funny memories of Liberty flooded back. Yes, Liberty was a philosopher, a pacifist, and an overall brilliant and wonderful man. However, he was also funny, witty, goofy and loved to mess with his friends. I can still hear him saying “burn!” when he got you. He would have your mind all twisted up and you’d really have no idea at all if he was being serious or not until you saw that twinkle in his eye and you knew he was just screwing with you. The best part is, although capable of it, he never screwed with anyone unless he truly loved them, and he always did it in a kind and funny way.

Its funny to hear about Dirt wearing his old outfit at his memorial but I am more glad that he wore the suit that he had worn many times before. To me what he wore was very fitting of a man who had evolved from a kid watching Ninja Scroll into a man who was seeking a PHD. Really if you think about it being buried in a blue dickies jacket with sXe patches might sound silly for someone to go out in as well. Its always good to hear a story about Dirt from somone who was a bystander to the groups inner workings. Thanks.
