Liberty…
Posted by Jake on July 20th, 2007 filed in libertyHey folks,
I would like to request we keep this website centered on Liberty’s memory and maybe back off a little from focusing too much on Aguirre. I too have spent a lot of time focused on this guy, and I feel it is getting in the way of our focus on Liberty. It just seems to me that the website has been a bit too focused on things other than Liberty lately, and I have been getting calls to take down this or that from different people and I cannot do that anymore, it is too stressful. I am still mourning and dealing with the emotional scars of witnessing Liberty violently killed and am exhausted. People can write what they want, but from now on, I only will discuss Liberty and his memory. I won’t remove anymore stuff so whatever anyone writes please don’t ask me to delete anymore parts of this website, contact one of the other moderators. I am just spent.
Good news: I am planning on adding a section on Liberty’s Philosophical writings and Liberty’s Activism in the near future. I found some old pictures of Liberty from protests and direct actions that we did back in the day, some great stuff.

jake… people mourn in different ways and some people heal by understanding a situation as fully as they possibly can. deleting posts regarding the facts of the case prevents many people from being able to heal from this tragedy. as a moderator, i will not be deleting any posts or comments unless they are erik aguirre’s friends or family members defending his actions. if liberty’s friends want to post facts they’ve learned about the case, then so be it.

Dear Jake,
I am so sorry to hear that you have been getting calls like this. I can’t imagine how exhausted you must feel, and this is only adding to the pain. I appreciate your concern to keep this site focused on Liberty, for that is what really makes it shine.
Dear Deborah,
I happened to be on this site when you first posted the link to the information you had found. I have also recently searched Liberty’s name online and if I had stumbled upon the same information myself I would have felt obligated to share it with others as well. You were merely connecting us to what you had found. You even went out of your way to summarize the very wordy blogs. Thank you again for that.
All my love, Jen

I agree fully with Jake. Let this be a memorial site where we can look at the good that Liberty did. If you want to constantly grandstand about what you Googled about the scum, why don’t you just make a separate site on why he’s a piece of dog excrement. Keep this site for people who loved Liberty or who had Liberty touch them in some way. People do in fact mourn differently so if this is to be a memorial site make it so, don’t sully it by debating about your point of view on grieving or about your search engine skills. I visit this site everyday and every Liberty story has been amazing to me and filled me with joy. Then when I read the Check out this about the murderer and it takes away from Dirt and the man who was killed. So I plead with the grandstanders just make another site devoted to the case and updates on the killer. I can’t speak for everyone but just stop the debates about the murder. If you care that much more about the murder, than please start a site where you can debate all day about the case.

To all of those who find it important to find out about the facts of the case and understand what is going on. We can e-mail each other and any other person who wants factual information relayed to them can be e-mailed as well. My e-mail address is help_liberty@hotmail.com

Dear James,
When I would Google Liberty’s name I was always looking for his former friends to connect with or for information on what he had done as a scholar. But I appreciate these concerns of yours and of Jake’s because this is what makes this site so beautiful.
The mission of this site has been defined and redefined. This is how it must be now in order to minimize suffering for everyone. Nobody meant to hurt anyone today, but today we only feel more pain. Instead of blaming others let us all learn from this experience and better understand the redefined goals of this site. Thank you for your insights, James.
Much Love, Jen

Jenn I’m sure your intentions are great but I think if the family who has known Liberty all his life wants something taken down then it should be. If they read something and it makes them sad then I really dont think its appropriatte for a memorial. If this site will just be about debate as we are having right now then I want no part of it.I thought this was a site about Liberty and not our own egos and who knew him the best or most. I myself have now become what I dont like about this site while I write this. We need to remember this is a site for Liberty and not ourselves.

I come on this site like every other day. Just to see if there are more stories or more pictures of my cousin. The blogs have shed some light of things that I had not known. I don’t know if the scenario the person wrote is true. But I will say this to anyone. Whoever has anything to hide about this tragic situation…..the truth will come out. Maybe not today…maybe not tmw….but it will someday. If the truth is out there already….than nothing to worry about.
It’s depressing to me to think about liberty gone. I don’t want to feel that he is gone from me. In some crazy way I want to believe he still is in San Diego and some day I ‘ll see him again. I know he is gone but now I just focus on my happy memories of him.
Deleting some stuff that I don’t know about leads me to believe there is more to this story. I will trust the moderators whats appropriate and whats not.
Google, yahoo, or whatever search engine you want to use is fine. This website will not be able to stop whats out there.
So if you have any doubts research it. Talk to people. Figure out what makes sense and what doesn’t. I believe that Liberty will have his justice.

Dear James,
I wholeheartedly agree with all of your comments. There are many important lessons for us to learn today. The goals of this site must be only to help heal pain by honoring Liberty. I do have faith that because of today everyone will have a better understanding of that now, as I know I do. Thank you and I’m sorry for this.
Best Wishes, Jen

The new section sounds like it’s going to be cool. Looking forward to seeing the new pictures, jake.
As for discontinuing talk about Aguirre on the site…I DO like getting updates about the case, in the hope that Liberty will ultimately get the justice he deserves, but I also think it is a good idea that such things be handled either through an alternate website, or the email address provided above.

I like getting updates about the case too because it helps to understand what is going on. I understand where you are coming from though, so post as you’d like and I’ll respect it either way. I do hope though that others will post details regarding the case here and there.
