Liberty’s Family…

We have a really big family with lots of cousins…Liberty was my cousin. We were the two 1978 babies. Growing up in a tight knit family was the best. My cousins were like my brothers and sisters. Then we all grew up, went to college, and became consumed in our own lives…We saw everyone at family parties a couple times a year. When we did see each other, it was like no time had passed, we’d just pick up where we left off. That’s how my conversations with Liberty always were.

Liberty was one of a kind. Our family is blessed to have had him in our lives.

Most people Liberty’s age are selfish, superficial, and material. I know because that’s me. While I’m buying a pair of $100 jeans, or a $300 purse, and eating steak….Liberty would be thinking about feeding the homeless or saving the environment. He didn’t need material things to make him happy. I had conversations with him about all this, and the best thing about Liberty was that he didn’t judge me or look down at me. He never forced his views or beliefs on anyone. He made me think about things for days. I don’t know if he even knew what an impact his words made.

I constantly think about Liberty…and wonder why. This wasn’t supposed to happen to him, but then I keep reminding myself that Liberty was in our lives for a purpose. He accomplished so much and taught so many people. I come on this site pretty much everyday…and I learn knew things about Liberty. It makes me even more proud of him. I used to tell my friends stories of “my vegan cousin who lived in a tree” and I had to explain that “Liberty” was actually his real name.

Liberty’s memory will live on in my heart forever.

I love you Liberty and miss you.
